Poem of the 1896 Flood by William Lewis

Hallowell Flood of 1896

It was March 3, 1896 and there was a flood
Everyone was 10 feet under without any food
Hope was thought to be lost after the second day,
When on the third the water flowed away.
Many were devastated by this disaster,
Rebuilding made difficult with heavy plaster,
The water and people are gone,
But those disastrous days live on.
