The ice storm of 98 hit Hallowell very hard. Recently Iowa had an ice storm, these storms were similar. The Hallowell ice storm resulted in more than an inch of ice coating everything in sight, the Iowa storm had more than 1/2 an inch of ice in some areas. In Maine, the ice storm became a National Emergency. In both cases, power lines were downed and trees were destroyed, people were told to stay indoors and line crews had to clean up the mess.

Disaster Comparer
This ice storm is similar to the one that is happened currently in February 2010 Oklahoma. They both had wicked icy roads and a lot of car crashes. Also they had trees that had limbs that had been blown off from being so frozen and brittle. Another common factor was that a lot of homes and business's were and are with out power. Those are the similarities between the ice storm of 98” in Hallowell, Maine and Oklahoma.

Canada Ice Storm
There are many similarities between the ice storm of 1998 Hallowell ME, and the ice storm of 1998 in Canada. In Canada, all of the trees were coated in a thick layer of ice. This is similar to Hallowell because in our ice storm the trees were also coated in ice. In the ice storm in Canada they lost their power due to a layer of ice weighing down the power lines. The ice kept coming until the wire snaps. This occurred in both events. In these two incidents it took more then a few days for everything to thaw out of its ice prison witch still made the surface slippery and dangerous for the residents. The most similar thing about the two ice storms is that many people got many sicknesses including hypothermia, people also suffered from dehydration. These two events were very unfortunate and we will be very lucky if we are free from these disasters in our life time.

Iowa Ice Storm and 1998 Ice Storm
There isn’t much difference between the Iowa Ice Storm of 2010 and the Maine and Canada Ice Storm of 1998. They were both severe storms that put people out of there homes because they had no heat or power. In Maine there was no school for two weeks and as of now in Iowa there still isn’t any school yet. A few people died in the 1998 Ice Storm because of carbon monoxide poisoning. Those are some of the similarities and differences of the ’98 Ice Storm and the Iowa Ice Storm 2010.
