The Stevens Training Center Serenaders

The Stevens Training Center began as the Maine Industrial School For Girls. The purpose according to its goal statement was, "not a place of punishment, to which its inmates are sent as criminals by criminal process -- but a home for the friendless, neglected and vagrant children of the State."

The girls, ages seven through fifteen attended classes and participated in many other activities like singing. The Serenaders. a group of seventeen girls, along with the school Superintendent Dr. Pauline I. McCready, also the Conductor-Accompanist, ventured into the studios of Augusta radio station WRDO. There they recorded six songs for a record album entitled Stars Over Stevens. Nothing is known of the individual singers.

The Serenaders from 1965.
